Alpine Valley Music Theatre is a giant shed in the farmland of East Troy, Wisconsin, about an hour from Milwaukee and one of the largest amphitheaters in the country. DMB's two-night stands there were a Midwest institution through the 2000s — for years, if you lived between the coasts, Alpine was the weekend you circled on the calendar.
The poster catalog tracks the venue's own ups and downs. There's a print from every summer stand through 2010, then the calendar gets patchier: DMB kept coming back — 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 — but skipped more years than it played, and 2019, 2022, and 2024 are the only stops since. Methane Studios designed about half the Alpine posters, and Chuck Sperry, Dan Mumford, Marq Spusta, and DKNG have each taken a turn.
Alpine prints get less attention than Gorge or SPAC posters, which actually makes the venue worth targeting: the catalog is small enough to finish, and the slower pace of new shows means it stays that way.
